How to manage your margin and position

This article explains how to adjust an open perps position on Cronos app: adding funds to it, withdrawing funds from it, and increasing its size

Steps

Finding your position controls

  1. Open Cronos app and locate your open position, either on the asset page or in the Perps section of your portfolio.

  2. Tap the position to see your management options. The three dots reveal more options.

Adding margin to reduce liquidation risk

  1. Tap Add Margin.

  2. Enter the amount of USD to add.

  3. The margin is added right away. Your position size stays the same, and your liquidation price moves further from the current price.

Withdrawing margin

  1. Tap Withdraw Margin.

  2. The maximum you can withdraw is shown. This is the margin your position does not currently need to remain open.

  3. Enter the amount and the margin returns to your available balance right away.

Withdrawing margin moves your liquidation price closer to the current price, so your position is at greater risk after withdrawing. See What is liquidation.

Increasing your position

  1. Tap Add to your position.

  2. Enter the amount to add. The new amount uses the same direction and leverage as your existing position.

  3. Review the details and tap Confirm.

Changing your Take Profit or Stop Loss

From the same position menu, you can add, change, or remove Take Profit and Stop Loss orders at any time. See What are Take Profit and Stop Loss orders.

Questions

Why can I not withdraw more margin?

You can only withdraw margin if your position does not need it to stay open. If your position is at a loss, or uses most of its margin, there may be little or nothing to withdraw.

Does adding margin change my position size?

No. Adding margin does not buy or sell anything. It only adds a bigger safety buffer, moving your liquidation price further away.

Why does my added amount use the same leverage?

All orders on an asset use the same leverage as your existing position on it. To use different leverage, close the position first.

I want to take some profit without closing everything.

Withdrawing margin does not lock in profit. To take profit, close part of your position instead. See How to close a perps position.
