How to open a perps position

This article explains how to open a long or short perps position on Cronos app. If you are new to perps, read What are perps first

Steps

  1. Open Cronos app and go to the asset you want to trade. You can find it in the Markets tab or through search.

  2. Tap Trade to bring up the order page.

  3. Slide the leverage slider to switch to perps trading. If the leverage slider isn’t present, this means perps is unavailable for your chosen asset.

  4. Choose your leverage. Higher leverage opens a larger position from the same funds, but also increases your risk. See What is leverage and buying power.

  5. Tap Long if you expect the price to rise, or tap Short if you expect it to fall.

  6. Enter the amount you want to commit to the position. The minimum position size is 10 USDC. By default your order fills at the current price; to set your own entry price instead, use a limit order. See What is a limit order.

  7. Set a Take Profit or Stop Loss if you want your position to close automatically at a profit or loss level you choose. This step is optional. See What are Take Profit and Stop Loss orders.

  8. Review the details, including your position size and liquidation price, then tap Confirm.

Your new position appears on the asset page and in the Perps section of your portfolio.

If your perps funds balance is not enough to cover the order, Cronos app automatically moves the difference from your spot/predictions funds. See How to move funds between your spot/predictions and perps funds.

Questions

Why can I not place my order?

The most common reason is that the order is below the minimum position size of 10 USD. Increase the amount or your leverage and try again.

Why can I not change my leverage?

If you already have an open position on that asset, new orders on it use the same leverage as the existing position. To use different leverage, close the position first.

Why did my order not fill?

Orders placed at the current price fill immediately. If you placed a limit order, it only fills when the market reaches your chosen price. See What is a limit order.

How much can I lose?

The most you can lose on a position is the amount you committed to it. Other positions and the rest of your funds are not affected. See What is liquidation.
