What are stock and commodity perps
Stock and commodity perps let you trade the price movements of traditional assets, such as company shares or gold, the same way you trade crypto perps. You can go long or short, use leverage, and set take profit and stop loss orders.
You do not own the underlying asset. A stock perp gives you exposure to the share price, but you do not hold the share itself.
You can trade around the clock
Stock markets have opening hours, but stock and commodity perps on Cronos app can be traded at any time, including nights, weekends, and market holidays.
This is a key difference from buying the actual stock, and it affects how prices behave when the underlying market is closed.
How prices work when the market is closed
The price of a stock or commodity perp follows the real market whenever that market is open. When the market closes, prices work differently:
While the market is open, the perp price tracks the live price of the underlying asset.
While the market is closed, the perp price moves based on trading activity in the perp itself. It can drift away from the last closing price as traders react to news.
When the market reopens, the perp price returns to following the live market price.
This means the price can move suddenly when the market reopens, especially after major news over a weekend or holiday. If you hold a position through a market open, check it around that time, as a sudden move can trigger your stop loss or, in severe cases, liquidation.
Who provides these markets
Stock and commodity perps on Cronos app are provided by trade.xyz, a team that builds these markets on Hyperliquid, the trading venue that powers perps on Cronos app. For detailed information about how these markets are priced and operated, see the trade.xyz documentation.
Questions
Do I receive dividends from stock perps?
No. You do not own the share, so you do not receive dividends or any other shareholder benefits. You are trading the price movement only.
Why did the price jump suddenly?
This usually happens when the underlying market reopens. While the market was closed, the perp price moved on its own, and at reopening it adjusts back to the live market price. This can be a sharp move.
Do the same fees and funding rate apply to stock and commodity perps?
The fee structure is the same: a trading venue fee plus the Cronos app fee. The venue fee for stock and commodity pairs is set by trade.xyz and differs from crypto pairs. See What fees do I pay on perps and the trade.xyz fees documentation. Funding payments continue around the clock, including when the underlying market is closed. See What is the funding rate.
Which stocks and commodities can I trade?
Check the Markets tab in the app for the current list, as new markets are added regularly.
